disneyland of art, take 4

Part of The Sleeping CityInhotim, a major gem in both Brazil and the contemporary art world, has Free Wednesdays.  I visited the other week, and my photography benefited from so many school children visiting on day trips from the state capital, Belo.  Photography, only recently, is now permitted inside galleries: a very welcome artistic development.  I concentrated on the three new major ones and/or those with completely changed content, since my last visit in July.  Inhotim is a wonder to behold, alone justifying a visit to Brazil or Minas Gerais.  [please hover over images to see captions, including artist and artwork.]

About Ben

Ben Batchelder has traveled some of the world's most remote roads. Nothing in his background, from a degree in Visual & Environmental Studies at Harvard to an MBA from Wharton, adequately prepared him for the experiences. Yet he persists, for through such journeys life unfolds. Having published four books that map the inner and exterior geographies of meaningful travel, he is a mountain man in Minas Gerais, Brazil who comes down to the sea at Miami Beach, Florida. His second travel yarn, To Belém & Back, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. For more, visit www.benbatchelder.com.
