tiradentes2belém film debut

Due to heavy rains the night of the film’s debut during the Mineiro launch of “To Belém & Back,” a re-debut is now scheduled in Tiradentes’s Cultural Center for Friday, Jan. 8th, at 7:30pm.

The film, in many ways a simple love letter to the interior of Brazil, brings a different sensibility to the roadsides, riversides, and interior seasides that are generally avoided by tourists, journalists, and artists alike.  Leave it to American author Ben Batchelder, who grew up in the land of road mythology, to bring a fresh eye to this neglected part of Brazil’s heritage.

About Ben

Author Ben Batchelder has traveled extensively on American and Brazilian backroads. Nothing in his background, from a degree in Visual & Environmental Studies at Harvard to an MBA from Wharton, adequately prepared him for the experiences. Nevertheless he has published two books on his New World journeys, that map the inner and exterior geographies of meaningful travel, with plans for more. Having grown up in Cambridge, Mass., he currently leads a bi-hemispheric life, as a mountain man with a writer’s retreat in the hills of Minas Gerais, Brazil who comes down to the sea at Miami Beach, Florida.
