lavras novas, minas

Lavras Novas, high up in the Serra de Ouro Branco mountains of Minas Gerais, is a discovery.  I spent a recent weekend there, a work-vacation, drafting an overdue edit (the 12th) of the manuscript for my fifth book.

The town was until recently (around 2022) of difficult access, on precarious dirt roads which easily became impassable during summer rains. Instead of a asphalt, they chose cobblestones – conforming to the mountain sides.

A former gold mining town, until recently lost in time, it is now a funky, artist town, which attracts many tourists from Belo Horizonte on weekends.

I stayed at a Roteiro de Charme pousada named Loft da Serra, with massive loft rooms and sweeping views. To go with the town’s trendy Eastern Mysticism jive, my room was named Mumbai, with Indian decorations. [kindly hover over images for captions]
